Ruined by Amy Tintera
Emelina marries Prince Casimir to unite their two kingdoms and he turns out to be a pretty nice guy and she might be falling in love. Sounds great, only... Emelina is only pretending to be Casimir's fiancee from Lera -she is actually one of the Ruined -enemies of the Prince. Emelina is bent on revenge for her people and trying to rescue her sister, who has been kidnapped by the king but things have gotten terribly complicated. MS HS Fantasy, Family, Revenge, Relationships, Romance
What I liked: I liked the characters and felt the conflict was real and dealt with realistically. I felt the characters reacted logically to their situation. There was no easy answer and no one was the complete bad guy or good guy. Both sides did some terrible things. The characters read a little young a few times but I also liked that because they are teenagers and it make sense that they would feel unsure and not know what to do necessarily.
Who should read it: fantasy fans; star-crossed lovers
If you liked this, then try:
The Thief by Megan Whalen Turner
The Perilous Gard by Elizabeth Marie Pope
Lumatere Chronicles by Melina Marchetta
Crown Duel and Court Duel by Sherwood Smith
Sorcery & Cecelia: or the Enchanted Chocolate Pot by Patricia Wrede
