Lily and the Octopus by Steven Rowley
A love story -a man and his dog. Ted loves Lily, his dog, who is his best friend and has taught him to love. But Lily is ill and Ted can not even name what is wrong with her. (He calls it an octopus.) Can Lily give Ted the strength to face his grief and move on? HS/AD Pets, Relationships, Grief
What I liked: I liked the relationship between Ted and Lily. You could tell he really loved Lily and struggled with the reality that she was going to die and he did not know how he would be able to go on without her. At first, I thought the whole octopus thing was strange but I felt it really showed Ted's need to deny reality and his growth when he is finally able to acknowledge what is really happening by naming the tumor.
Who should read it: dog lovers especially of Dachshunds
